Synbiotic effect of juice made from germinated Alfalfa seeds and Aloe vera on in-vitro activity of probiotic Lactobacilli

Abstract :

INTRODUCTION: Probiotics are micro–organism which upon ingestion in certain numbers exerts health benefit in gut beyond inherent general nutrition. AIM: To study the synbiotic effect of juice made from germinated Alfalfa seeds and Aloe Vera on in–vitro activity of probiotic Lactobacilli. METHOD: 5%, 25% and 50% concentration of samples prepared using 15g, 30g, and 45g of alfalfa seed and Aloe vera juice, incorporated into the growth media of two strains of lactobacilli (L. acidophilus and L.plantarum.) RESULT: Samples with higher concentration showed lesser acidity. Sample with 5% concentration showed maximum growth of L.acidophillus and L.plantarum as evident from the lesser generation time and higher acidity. No statistically significant change in acidity or growth is seen in samples with different concentration of Alfalfa. CONCLUSION: At a particular concentration, Aloe vera could possibly be used as a combinational therapy. Additionally, Alfalfa seeds has no major role on growth of probiotic bacteria.
