The Prevalence Of Colour Vision Deficiency Among School Children In Telangana State

Abstract :
Colour vision is the ability to distinguish objects based on the wavelength of light they
emit,reflect or transmit. Inability to distinguish different colours is colour vision
deficiency. The aim of the study is to determine the prevalence of colour vision
deficiency among school children in Hyderabad district. The present study was
conducted under National School Eye Screening Programme .Total 13,149 school
children were screened consisting of 6484 (49.31%) girls and 6665 (50.68%) boys.
Among them 118 (0.89%) students were found to have colour vision deficiency.
Prevalence rate for CVD was found to be higher in males 88.93% than girls 11.04%.
Diagnosis of congenital colour vision deficiency in school children helps in adaptation of
children to their dysfunction and better planning of their professional future.
