Abstract :

Objective: To study the metabolic syndrome parameters in patients of polycystic ovarian Syndrome(PCOS) and in normal controls. Material & This case control comparative study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital with cooperation from the Department of Obstetrics Methods: and Gynecology during period of may 2016 to October 2017 in PCOS & healthy controls. The study had 2 groups of 60 subjects each between 15 – 40 years of age. 60 registered patients of polycystic ovarian syndrome from OBGY OPD and IPD and 60 age matched healthy controls were included in the study. The case and control group were compared using unpaired t test. We recorded waist circumference (WC) and blood pressure (BP) and measured serum levels triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL–C), Fasting blood glucose (FBG) by enzymatic method. Our study showed that amongst all the ve parameters of metabolic syndrome specically Triglyceride, fasting Result: glucose, waist circumference recorded were higher in cases as compared to control. Statistically highly signicant differences were also observed between them however HDL – cholesterol noticed to be lowered in cases. Only blood pressure was the parameter which shows no statistically signicant difference between cases and controls PCOS patients have a greater risk of developing metabolic Conclusion: syndrome(MS) compared to healthy controls.
