Abstract :

Introduction– Estimation of stature is one of the basic parameters to identify an individual. This paper demonstrates that the anthropometry of hand plays a significant role in estimating stature. Material and Methods: The present study comprised of a sample of 300 healthy individuals (150 males and 150 females) in the age group between 18 to 28 years studying in S.N.Medical college of Agra. Results : In male, mean right hand length is more strongly correlated with stature as compared to mean left hand length (correlation coefficient for right hand is 0.4025 and for left hand is 0.3964). Also in females, mean right hand length is more strongly correlated with stature as compared to mean left hand length (correlation coefficient for right hand is 0.0788 and for left hand is 0.044). Linear regression equations were also derived to determine stature. Conclusion: It is concluded that length of hand provides good reliability in estimation of stature. This data is useful for the identifying of war casualties & for medico legal purpose. Key Words: Stature, Hand Length, Anthropometer,Digital vernier caliper. Regression Equation.
