Traditional Knowledge of Namda Craft from Gujarat

Abstract :

 Gujarat state is well known for its rich tradition and culture. It has been famous for its arts and craftwork. The craftsmen are still following their traditional method in designing the art work, and this is what makes their work quite unique. Many researchers, some government and non–government organizations have been working for the development and revival of these crafts in the state. Yet, some arts and crafts are on extinction threat which needs to be looked into preserved ‘Namda’ is one of such craft. Filed survey was undertaken along with observation and case study method for collecting data. The findings revealed that, in the present context, it is found that the value for the Namda craft of Gujarat has been drastically fallen, due to the less awareness in the customers they do not keen to buy the product due to which the remaining few craftsmen in Gujarat associated which Namda craft are lacking increase in doing practicing the craft. The present work is focused on the socio–economical profile of the craftsmen engaged with the craft, the process, materials and products. Concern towards the present scenario of the marketing linkages for this craft is also given.
