VIRECHANA KARMA IN THE MANEGMENT OF RHEUMATOID ARTHRITIS (AAMAVATA)

Abstract :

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a long–term autoimmune disorder that primarily affects joints.It typically results in warm, swollen, and painful joints.Pain and stiffness often worsen following rest. Most commonly, the wrist and hands are involved, with the same joints typically involved on both sides of the body. The disease may also affect other parts of the body. This may result in a low red blood cell count, inflammation around the lungs, and inflammation around the heart.Fever and low energy may also be present. Often, symptoms come on gradually over weeks to months.It is mostly found in 23–55age group with morning stiffness lasting for more than 1 hr and easing with physical activity.In Ayurveda Rheumatoid Arthritis is compared with Aamavata.Basically,the symptoms arising “Aama” i.e.Tenderness (Sparsha–Asahatva), Temperature (Ushana–Sparsh),Swelling (Sandhi–Shoth),Pain (Ruja) which are quite similar to Rheumatoid Arthritis.Therefore–

   Here I present the case of 42 years old male patient; whose early diagnosis of Rheumatoid Arthritis (Aamavata) permitted successful management according to ayurvedic principles. Though initially bedridden due to pain, he return to normal life.
