Abstract :

sciatic nerve is a main nerve of back of thigh formed in the pelvis by the union of ventral rami of L4 ,L5 ,S1 ,S2 ,S3 Spinal nerves . After formation the nerve leaves the pelvis through the greater sciatic foramen below to the pirifomis muscle which belongs to gluteal region , later it runs in back of thigh at the level of superior angle of popliteal fossa ,the nerve is divided into tibial nerve & common peroneal nerve.sometimes ,the nerve may be divided in the gluteal region above to pirimis /below to pirifomis musle. To know such type of higher level of division of nerve the following study is conducted ,which is very beneficial to general surgeons & orthopaedicians. Total 50 lower limb specimens are used for conducting the following study in a Department of Anatomy , Andhra medical college ,Visakhapatnam & Government medical college ,Ananthapuram.
