Abstract :

In the present study nasal septum surgery was performed on patients with deviated nasal septum in order to evaluate the effectiveness of this treatment in relief from severe symptoms of nasal obstruction. A total of 92 patients (Males 60; Females 32) with symptomatic nasal obstruction were selected for the study. 52 patients had inferior turbinate hypertrophy of which 28 underwent inferior turbinate reduction (ITR) along with septoplasty. In the remaining patients septoplasty alone was performed. Effectiveness of the nasal septal surgery was evaluated by compå the pre and post operative mean symptom scores (0–4). Statistical analysis of mean symptom score between the means of pre and post treatment revealed a significant reduction (p<0.001) in mean symptoms score post treatment indicating a significant relief to patients from the symptoms of nasal obstruction.
