Abstract :

In this cross sectional study, 30 patients with suspected pancreatico–biliary pathologies who underwentMagneticresonancecholangiopancreaticography( MRCP) over a period of 2 years were included. Mrcp findings are correlated with ultrasonography, computed tomography, ERCP and postoperative findings. Frequency of incidence of various pancreatico–biliary pathologies, their age wise and sex wise distribution were studied. In the present study there is male preponderance and male to female ratio being 1.5:1. Pancreatitis predominated in both males (33.4 %) and females (33.4%) followed by cholangiocarcinoma. Presence of biliary stricture and their location in biliary tree were also studied. This study revealed, both benign and malignant strictures are equally common in occurrence. The present study also revealed, proximal and distal CBD malignant strictures are equally common whereas proximal CBD benign strictures ( 83.3% )are more common than distal CBD benign strictures ( 16.7% ).There is now enough evidence to suggest that the efficacy of MRCP is at par with that of ERCP and can be considered as the gold standard for evaluation of the pancreatico – biliary system.
