Age at menarche and its secular trend in rural and urban girls of bathinda district

Abstract :

The present study concentrates on age at menarche and its secular trend prevailing in rural and urban girls of Bathinda district. 320 school girls were studied from Bathinda city and its neighbouring villages. Age at menarche of girls and their mothers were noted by recall method. Height, weight, body fat percentage, Hb and three day diet recall was also taken. It is observed that age at menarche was delayed in rural girls than urban girls. Age at menarche of daughters is almost a year earlier than theirs mothers.
