Analysis of Caffeine in Soft Drinks Consume in Saudi Arabia by UV spectroscopy

Abstract :
This study was carried out to determine the levels of caffeine in six ands of soft drinks available in local market in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Quantitative analysis of caffeine was performed by a simple and fast standard UV spectrophotometric method, using carbon tetrachloride as the extracting solvent. Result showed that the minimum caffeine level was observed in seven up (42.75 ppm), and the highest caffeine content in Pepsi Cola (71.01 ppm). The caffeine content in all the beverage samples analyzed in this study are well below the maximum allowable limits set by the US Food and Drugs Administration
