Application of Photodynamic therapy in peridontal Therapy

Abstract :

Mechanical removal of the biofilm and adjunctive use of antibacterial disinfectant have been conventional methods of periodontal therapy.In recent years, the combination of laser light and photosensitizer known as photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been found to be advantageous in periodontal therapy. Even though PDT is still in the experimental stages of development, the method can be use as an alternative to periodontal therapy. Therefore the aim of this review was to describe in detail application of photodynamic therapy in periodontal therapy.
