Abstract :

– Cord blood ABG analysis determines the level of oxygen and carbondioxide present in blood which are useful in determining the wellbeing of the newborn. If the newborn is depressed and has acidosis ,it could lead to neurologic complication in later life Measuring the values will also help in gauging, if the baby is suffering from perinatal asphyxia or not and can give insights into the aetiology of the acidosis. Identification of infants at risk of encephalopathy is especially important now that early intervention is being considered It has become widely accepted that umbilical cord blood gas analysis can provide important information about the past, present and possibly the future condition of the infant.1 Therefore this study is directed towards determining the significance of cord blood ABG in high risk pregnancies. This study included 50 high risk and 50 non high risk patients whose cord blood ABG and studied and compared with their respective neonatal outcome.
