Attitude Towards Widow Marriage

Abstract :

This research paper basically focuses on the attitudes of adult men, women and widows towards widow marriage. In this research study, carried out in Dharwad district- 300 respondents, in the age group of 20 to 45, with men, women and widows are covered in equal number, with an objective of exploring the factors which influenced the attitude of adult towards widow marriage. The results showed that, there was no difference between the attitude of male and female, 82 per cent of educated respondents had favourable attitude towards widow marriage, majority of the religion not encourage window marriages. The cultural norms and religious restrictions suppress the desires of widows. Windowed women face various economic, social and psychological problems many widows were not get any sort of support either by husband still relative or by the government. Purposive sampling method was used to select the sample. The data collected from pre-structured interview schedule. The data were categorized, tabulated and analysed using statistical measure like percentage method.
