Results: There were 5 cases of maternal mortality in this period, of which two were cases of ectopic pregnancy ,one of abortion with uterine perforation, one case of Atypical Eclampsia and a case of severe anaemia complicating pregnancy. Conclusion: Ectopic pregnancy and unsafe abortion continue to be a preventable cause of maternal mortality in first trimester.
