Direct Benefit Transfer Scheme

Abstract :
Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) is launched by Government of India on 1 January 2013. This program aims to transfer subsidies directly to the people living below poverty line through their bank accounts. It is hoped that changing mechanism of transferring subsidies i.e crediting subsidies into bank accounts will reduce leakages, delays, etc. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this paper is to study the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Scheme in India and government attempt to change the mechanism of transferring subsidies.
