Abstract :

Assessment of proliferative changes in east tumors are used as a tool for recognition of early disease .The objectives of this study were to assess the expression of proliferative markers namely Ki67 and Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen in east tumors and to determine their correlation with various clinicopathological features.

Study was carried out prospectively on 103 patients of carcinoma east and 46 patients of benign east disease. Histopathology examination and Immunohistochemistry was carried out to study the PCNA and Ki 67 expression.  Ki 67 overexpression was found in 61% of carcinoma east and 35% of benign east disease patients. Significant correlation was found in pathologically node negative patients.PCNA overexpression was seen in majority of patients but no significant correlation was found with any clinicopathological parameters.

Conclusion: Ki67 expression could guide in differentiating suspicious proliferative east lesions from carcinoma east.PCNA overexpression can be attributed to the commercially available antibodies recongnizing both isoforms of PCNA on normal and malignant epithelium.
