Facile synthesis, characterization and antimicrobial activity of chitosan–Alginate scaffolds

S. G. Kumbhar, S. H. Pawar

Abstract :

Chitosan and alginate are two natural and accessible polymers that are known to be biocompatible ,biodegradable and possesses good antimicrobial activity. When combined, they exhibit desirable characteristics and can be created into a scaffold for cell culture. Chitosan– alginate scaffolds of different combinations were prepared by using simple lyophilization technique and tested for antimicrobial activity. The physiochemical characteristics of the scaffold were characterized by FTIR and SEM. CA4 and CA8 were exhibits excellent antimicrobial property showed by agar plate diffusion method and antimicrobial activity assay. Hence, it can be served as a potential material for tissue engineering applications.
