Guilt : dissecting the construct (a short commentary)
Ananya Khatri, Avinash De Sousa
Abstract :
Guilt is a complex psychological construct that is further compounded by inconsistencies in its concepts and definitions. There are various forms of guilt some which are protective in nature, some developmental and the others which are punitive in nature. This paper is a short commentary that aims to dissect the various forms of guilt one may encounter in clinical practice. It is imperative that the clinicians working with patients who are psychologically disturbed understand the concept if guilt and try and decipher what guilt holds for them as a tool to enhance psychotherapeutic treatment.
