Abstract :

Larvicidal activity of Methanol, Ethyl acetate, Hexane and Acetone extracts of Wedelia chinensis (Asteraceae), were tested against the early fourth instar larvae of Aedes aegypti L. and Culex quinquefasciatus. The larval mortality was observed after 24 h of exposure different solvents of leaf and stem extracts of W. chinensis were subjected to doseresponse bioassay for larvicidal activity against the larvae of A. aegypti and C. quinquefasciatus. The numbers of dead larvae were counted after 24 h of exposure, and the percentage of mortality was reported from the average of five replicates. However, at the end of 24 h, the selected test samples methanol and acetone solvent have higher toxic potential and hexane and ethyl acetate have less toxic potential to the mosquito larvae. Of the various ratios tested, W. chinensis can be applied as an ideal potential larvicide against A. aegypti and C. quinquefasciatus. This is an ideal ecofriendly approach for the control of the dengue vector, A. aegypti, and the lymphatic filariasis vector, C. quinquefasciatus
