Level of Awareness on the Right to Information Act, 2005 Among Beneficiaries in Selected Districts of Rajasthan

Abstract :
Deprivation of information leads to social exclusion that ings number of challenges to governance and democracy. The present study is based an assumption that citizens of a nation should be well informed about their rights so that they participate to the extent of drawing maximum benefits out of various programmes, schemes and developmental programmes. The above cited assumption has generated the need for examining the level of awareness among the people of Rajasthan on the Right to Information Act, 2005. In order to answer to the research question, data were collected from field survey on 265 people being selected randomly from eleven villages of five districts of Rajasthan. The results of the study indicated that one third of selected population are found to be aware on the RTI Act, 2005 to a significant level and level of awareness among respondents is attributed to the locale, sex and educational status.
