Abstract :

This article reviews the action, metabolism, excretion and toxicity effects of local anesthetics in the management of pain during surgical and dental procedures. In this article, the efficacy of various local anesthetics has been discussed. Local anesthetics have similar chemical structure but differing pharmacokinetic properties and spectra of pharmacodynamic effects that influence selection of agents for use in various clinical situations. The structure and mechanism of various local anesthetics may enable the clinicians to exploit the safety of using them. However, indepth mechanism and the toxicity of the LA are yet to be studied in detail.
