On the Classification of root systems up to their Cartan matrices

Abstract :

The root systems are known to provide a relatively uncomplicated way of completely characterizing simple and semi–simple Lie algeas. The goal of this paper is to show that root systems may be themselves completely characterized ‘up to isomorphism’ by their Cartan matrices.
