Abstract :

The project investigates improvements in the turbocharged diesel engine transient response that are possible when a turbocharger power assist system consisting of an electric blower and a inverter coupled to the turbocharger. The method of investigation relies on comparison with a conventional turbocharged diesel engine which reveals the mechanism by which acceleration is boosted while maintaining approximately same fuel efficiency
