Silicotungstic acid: an efficient and ecofriendly catalyst for synthesis of 12–aryl / alkyl–8,9,10,12–tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthen–11–one derivatives

Abstract :
An efÃ¥cient, one–pot, condensation of 2–naphthol, aldehydes and dimedone catalyzed by silicotungstic acid has been accomplished for the synthesis of series of 12–aryl / alkyl–8,9,10,12–tetrahydrobenzo[a]xanthen–11–ones o under solvent free condition at 60 C. The present methodology offers several advantages such as high yields, short reaction time, mild condition, eco–friendly catalyst and easy work up procedure.
