Urvashi Anand, Dr. Mahendra P. Sharma
Abstract :
This pilot study examined the feasibility, acceptability, and usefulness of a Mindfulness – Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) program in reducing stress and enhancing well–being in adolescents. Five adolescents age 14–15 years participated in the intervention program. The program comprised of eight weekly sessions conducted for duration of approximately 40 minutes. Pre, post and three month follow–up assessments were conducted. Results of the study are encouraging and provide preliminary data on the effects of the MBSR program on physiological, behavioral, emotional manifestations of stress, academic stress, stress due to peer and teacher interactions, academic self–concept and well–being. High attendance rates, high retention rate and positive feedback on program evaluations support the program’s feasibility and acceptability. Further research is needed to test the efficacy of the intervention with a larger sample and a control group
