The Impact of the Ibo Clan Traditions on Okonkwo's Heroism

Abstract :

 Okonkwo is the hero of the story, Things Fall Apart, whom Achebe portraits as the ave warrior, honorable, rigorous and a self–reliable tribe’sman of action.Consequently, thistragic character emergeswith great controversy traits, despite his obligations towards the clan traditionsin both social and individual stature. The paper presents a cluster of the most prominent Ibotraditions which the hero clings to, anda list of some of the major traditions. And it will reveal the consequences if he violates or eaks them. Also, itconveysOkonkwo’spersonal victimization, the reasons and the consequences of his tragic downfall.Therefore, the entireintention of the paper is to show the extent that the hero adheres to the bulk of legacy and conforms to them with great determination. He bears in mind that applying these traditions is the steering force of his entire life. But he may not know theimpact of eaking and violating them, deliberately or otherwise.
