Wind Energy Integration for Dfig Based Wind Turbine Fault Ride–Through

Abstract :
This paperdeals with the Fault Ride–Through(FRT)capability assessment of a Doubly–FedInduction Generator (DFIG) based Wind Turbine(WT) using High–Order Sliding Mode(HOSM) control.Indeed, ithas been recently suggested that sliding mode controlisa solutionofchoicetothe FRT problem. In this context, this paper proposes HOSM asanimproved solution that hand lethe classical sliding mode chattering problem. Indeed, the main and attractive features of HOSM sarerobustnes sagainstext ernaldisturbances(e.g.grid)and chattering–free behavior (noextrame chanical stressonthedrivetrain). Simulationsu sing the NRELFAST codeona 1.5MW windturbine are carried–out toevaluateride through performance of the proposed HOSM cont rolstrategy in case of grid frequency variations and unbalanced voltagesags.
