Abstract :

In recent years measuring vessel wall abnormality with ultrasound imaging with B mode provides information regarding Intima Media Thickness. Also provide information of presence of plaque, calcification, wall diameter and assessment of atherosclerosis burden.Aims of Study:To study Carotid Artery Intima Media Thickness (CIMT) in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (DM) patients. Also to compare CIMT in patients of DM with and without coronary artery disease (CAD). To correlate CIMT with known coronary risk factors.Methodology:The study material consist of 100 subjects who were case of DM of regular out patient follow-up and those admitted in medical wards from period of Oct 08 to Sep 09.Results:The mean of CIMT among the DM patients in present study is 0.8273 ± 0.1366 mm. The mean CIMT in-patient having CAD and not having CAD is compared; the difference was statistically highly significant. Conclusions: In present study we are able to show statistically significant correlation among CAD & Non- CAD and the risk factors like sedentary life style, Body Mass Index more than Twenty Five, hypercholesterolemia.
