Good governance in India

Dr. Amaresh Chandra Sahoo

Abstract :

Good governance is an indeterminate term used in the international development literature to describe how public institutions conduct public affairs and manage public resources. Governance is "the process of decision–making and the process by which decisions are implemented (or not implemented)" The concept of Good Governance centres on the responsibility of governments and governing bodies to meet the needs of the masses. It promotes the principle of rule of law and responsive to the present and future needs of the state. Good governance ensures that political, social and economic priorities are based on oad consensus in society and that the voices of the poorest and the most vulnerable are heard in decision–making over the allocation of development resources. It is, among other things, participatory, transparent and accountable.
