HAEMATOLOGICAL AND GENOTOXIC EFFECTS INDUCED BY ORGANOPHOSPHATE INSECTICIDE "ROGOR" IN FRESHWATER CATFISH CLARIAS MAGUR (HAMILTON, 1822)

Abstract :

Rogor is one of the organophosphate insecticides, widely used in agriculture. In the present study, the effect of rogoron some haematological parameters of the freshwater catfish clarias magur was investigated.Fishes were exposed to 6.5mg/L and 13mg/L of rogor for 7 consecutive days. After 7 days of exposure, a decreased number of RBC (2.34, 1.83×106 mm–3) and decreased Haemoglobin (Hb) concentration (7.18, 5.58 g dl–1) was observed in both the groups in comparison with the control (with 2.83×106 mm–3RBC and 7.76 gdl–1 Hb respectively). Increased number of WBC (78.27, 87.73 ×103 mm–3in comparison with the control having 64.35±0.18×103mm–3)was also observed in the treated groups. The results were statistically significant at p<0.05 level. Again micronuclei were observed in the erythrocytes of peripheral blood of both the treated groups.
