Level of Knowledge of Chronic Kidney Disease among Adult Patients at King Abdulaziz University Hospital

Abstract :

Despite a worldwide increase in the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD), the general population and CKD patients have a low level of awareness of the disease. This cross–sectional survey aimed to explore the level of knowledge among CKD and dialysis patients at King Abdulaziz University Hospital, Jeddah. Fifty–three patients completed the questionnaire. Patients had limited information on kidney function and the nature and management of CKD. Further, low educational level, unemployed status, marital status, and short duration of CKD influenced knowledge levels. There is an urgent need to educate the community and health providers about the asymptomatic nature of CKD and highlight the importance of regular nephrology care.
