Prevalence of Post–Traumatic Stress Disorders and associated factors among workers attending trauma centers in Jeddah, KSA

Abstract :

Occupational accidents and injuries have health, economic, social and psychological impacts like Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) which is develops after a traumatic event. This is study including 363 workers referred to the centers due to exposure to a workplace accident or injury. Cronbach alpha coefficient was calculated to assess the reliability of the check lists for psychometric properties: Post-traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist Civilian version, Hamilton Anxiety Scale and Trauma Symptom Checklist. Most of participants are males of age (30 - 40) years. The prevalence of (PTSD) reaching almost onehalf of the sample and there is a significant associations between (PTSD) and worker\'s gender (p=0.03), nationality (p<0.001), education (p=0.001) and smoking status (p=0.046). (PTSD) had statistically significant associations with worker\'s job category (p<0.001), and smoking during work (p=0.02). (TSC) score was identified as an important independent predictive factor of (PTSD) score.
