Non–carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) are pathological processes characterized by the hard tissue dental loss at the cemento–enamel junction

(CEJ) independent of bacterial process. These non–carious processes may include aasion, corrosion and possibly abfraction, acting alone or in

combination. Abfraction lesions occurs due to repeated non–axial tooth loading that can cause cuspal flexure and stress concentration at the

cervical region of teeth leading to eak away of tooth structure. There is theoretical evidence existing in support of abfraction but very little

experimental evidence is available today. Understanding the biomechanics involved in development of abfraction lesions is important for the

diagnosis and management. The objective of this article is to critically review the literature about concept of abfraction and their management.
