Value Education Concepts as reflected in Sri Sundara Kanda of Srimad Valmiki Ramayana

Abstract :

Values include all important religious beliefs, moral attitudes, philosophies of life and political ideologies. Values help in sustaining the society and its culture. Any significant change in society ings about corresponding change in the culture. Similarly in individual life, values have occupied an important place. If individuals confide their feelings and emotions, transformation will take place and peace and tranquility will be achieved. Thus Values are the treasure of life making humans healthy and wealthy. Due to value deterioration in our present way of mechanical life, time has come for researchers to reflect on the golden messages of ancient Indian literature. Srimad Valmiki Ramayana is an invaluable asset with universal application. The emphasis in this investigation is to identify Value Education Concepts as reflected among the various characters of Sri Sundara Kanda of Srimad Valmiki Ramayana . This study provides with values required in different life situations at school (institution/office) or in the society. It also presents strategies for value inculcation.
